It’s been a while, I know…

I feel guilty - I really do! (Though that guilt is based on the perhaps erroneous assumption that anyone’s reading.) One of my New Year’s resolutions is to post more frequently, particularly to post at least a sketch a week, and just let folks see what I’m doing. Also, I’ll get back to posting my Rowing News illustrations as well - I’m likely to work harder on them when folks I know are looking.

To that end, here are two pages I drew for last summer’s smash hit (by my standards) anthology Sundays. The challenge was to draw what you’d like to see in your Sunday newspaper comics section. In recent years, I’ve become a great fan of old adventure strips, back when they had plenty of space and plenty of action. Of course, our 11 x 17 pages weren’t as large as a newspaper page, but they were larger than I usually work, and I had a lot of fun with the format. Since I knew I wouldn’t be able to draw a complete story in time (I was scrambling to finish my thesis before the end of the academic year), so I drew two installments of an imaginary larger arc, based on the adventures of Rudyard Kipling’s Mowgli. These strips are from one of the later Mowgli stories, called “Red Dog.”

Enjoy!
