It’s a little weird for me, seeing this up here. It’s been four years since I wrote the original story, two since I finished the first draft of the script for the comic, a little over a year since I abandoned the project as my Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) senior thesis, and five months since I drew this first page.
The pages were colored by the amazing Joseph Lambert, who is a senior at CCS right now, and is also working on projects for Secret Acres and Hyperion. I don’t know how he does it.
The story is based loosely in Russian Folklore- the stories of the Koschei the Deathless and Marya Morevna, although this Marya has a long way to go before she lives up to the warrior queen reputation of her namesake.
More on Thursday.

Colleen,
This looks really good! I think this cleaner. simpler relaunch suits both you and the project. And having seen your final thesis work at SPX this year, I’m really looking forward to this.
Good to see Marya back!
